...the best gets even better

- mechanical & cross-over upgrades for the original fremont
Many audiophiles may know something of the non-linearities introduced by the use of capacitors in the signal paths of audio electronics. Years of research and resources have been expended by designers to make it possible to remove these capacitors altogether. However, capacitors remain an unavoidable necessity in dynamic loudspeakers for high-pass situations (i.e. midrange drivers, tweeters and super-tweeters). Sonically speaking, we describe these non-linearities, in part, as forcing a separation between the natural harmonics, and natural group delay in music...What we hear in the consequent outcome is almost as if a musical instrument were able to "throw its voice".
Speaker designers have, therefore, always been forced to choose between favoring either the natural ambient structure or the harmonic portrayal in music. Unfortunately, it has been impossible to achieve accuracy in one without experiencing major losses of the other. In the past couple of months we have acquired a recently developed capacitor that has the ability to keep both the ambient and harmonic information intact! It's not cheap, being more than 20x the cost of the typical audiophile-grade polypropylene film/foil capacitor, but the results are impossible to overlook.
We have also established additional performance gains in the tweeter circuit by implementing a new loading resistor. Although these gains are small in comparison to the capacitor upgrade, they are noticeable in the top octave of the speaker's response; affording an even taller and deeper soundstage.
Furthermore, we have recently refined the Fremont cabinetry by applying a soft, non-porous material to the interior. A technical discussion about the reasons for such a modification may be too lengthy to describe here, but we’re obliged to report that the result of this alteration is music with far more precision, both in detail and dynamic portrayal, while delivering a more solid, immediate, yet more relaxed overall presentation. This brings us even closer than ever, sonically, to a perfect cabinet.
We’ve employed the aforementioned innovations in the FREMONTii cross-over upgrade for the original Fremont loudspeaker. Contact Us to find out the availability of the FREMONTii cross-over upgrade in your area. Thanks, Escalante Design
